Anyone who decides to buy a Green Star GS-1000 will either have more money than sense or be someone who is very interested in purchasing a top quality juicing appliance. This machine is made by the Tribest Corporation which is an American company. It is actually the lowest priced juicer in the GS series however it still costs over $400 so it is by no means cheap. This device is a twin gear juicing appliance. The way it works is by having two gears that interlock and spin in opposite directions. The fresh fruit and vegetables that you feed into the juicer are squeezed in between the two gears which pulps them and squeezes the juice out. Twin gear juicers like the Green Star GS-1000 are known as being very high yield juice extractors.

Before you rush into purchasing a machine like this it would be a good idea to read a few different juicer reviews. This is because you have to be sure that this is the machine for you. It can juice wheat grass but is not a dedicated wheat grass juicer. If you wanted a unit that is a specialist wheat grass juicer then there are more appropriate machines to choose.

The Green Star GS-1000 operates at much lower speeds than centrifugal juicers such as the Hamilton Beach 67650 or the Breville BJE200XL. This is thought by many experienced juice makers to be a good thing. When you juice at lower speeds, there is less of an effect on the temperature of your juice. The less the temperature increases, the better condition the nutrients within the juice will remain. This is better for our bodies when we drink it.

You can tell that the Green Star GS-1000 is a top quality product by the dryness of the pulp that it ejects.

If you are considering buying a juicer machine, here are a few unusual things that you can do that you may not have been aware that a juicer can do apart from just making delicious and healthy juice. The things we will mention do require a certain type of machine – what is known as a “masticating” juicer. This is simply the type that works by slowly turning a big screw, or auger, and crushing juice out of fruit and vegetables. This is different to a high speed machine that works like a centrifuge and by shredding up the ingredients. The masticating juicer also has the option of being able to juice things like wheat grass, that are quite dry and stringy.
1. Making crushed ice, frozen fruit sorbets, and “slushies” – because they are able to powerfully crush hard ingredients, many juicers can just handle ice and chunks of whole frozen fruit. This is great for frozen cocktails – just freeze your mixed up concoction, then put it through the juicer and voila – party time!
2. Nut butters – many masticating juicers can crush up peanuts, almonds, cashews and more for home made spreads. Add some vegetable oil if the butter is too dry, as will be the case with less oily nuts such as almonds.
3. making pasta – Yes, a masticating juicer can make pasta! Check that the manufacturer OK’s it, but many models can handle the pasta dough being put through, and come with a special nozzle attachment to form different sorts.
These are not all the things a juicer can do – certain models are sold with mincing attachments that allow you to put raw meat through, and make your own mince from anything including fish and game. If versatility is on your list then a masticating juicer may be just the thing for you.
