Before you go shopping for a new bathroom light, you should know what the different types of them are so that you can be sure that your decision is the right one.  Each type of light fixture does a specific job and has things that it isn’t good at.  This post is going to show you the different types and their pros and cons so you can get the right one for your bathroom.

The most common is the bathroom vanity light fixture.  These are designed to light the entire bathroom, which works great in small square and rectangle shaped rooms.  As soon as you add a wall or a turn in there, these lights are no longer effective.  The key to getting the most from these is having a light colored counter top that will reflect light all over the bathroom when the vanity lights are pointed down at it.

Bathroom ceiling lights work great for lighting a specific area of the room.  If you have vanity lights, yet some parts of your bathroom are covered in shadows, consider a ceiling light.  These are common above the shower since showers tend to be dark and these lights are often water proof.  If you rely on ceiling lights make sure that you consider how difficult they are to change.  You don’t want to have to run for a ladder every time a light goes out.

Wall lights are mostly for decoration.  The only provide a narrow area of light, and tend to be right at eye level, which is irritating first thing in the morning.  Install these lights if you have some blank walls that need some decoration, but they’re ineffective as actual lights.

Pendant lights and hanging lights aren’t very common, but they work like ceiling lights do and light up a specific area.  The good thing about these is that you can easily adjust their height to get the best results.  Sometimes it only takes moving a light up or down 6 inches to get it to reflect well off of the mirror and walls to sufficiently light a room.

Now that you know the different types of bathroom lights, you can make a decision on which type you should install into your home.  These light styles can also be applied in other rooms of the home.
