Baskets are made in order to keep things that belong together together and organized. Freezer Baskets are no exception to this. They come mainly in two types: The pull out variety or the lift out one. Fact is also that you want to find things quick in your freezer, because – it is cold in there. Thinking and planning the organization of your basket can help you a great deal with that. I have put together a few things I do to keep my frozen goods under control and I hope I can help you a bit with them.
You can either keep similar things together, such as all meat or fish products in one and all frozen vegetables in another basket, or you can organizing them by ‘best before’ date. The later might be a good idea if you have a lot of food in your freezer and want to avoid wasting it. Remember, even when frozen, germs might still be present and therefor you should never eat food that has passed its ‘best before’ or ‘sell by’ date. Another great trick is to keep all already opened packages together, this way you avoid not only to open a second one of the same kind, it also helps to keep your freezer clean. If you don’t want to use dedicated bag clips for that, you can always use cloth pegs, they work just as well and are cheaper.
Last but not least you should regularly, perhaps one time per month, sort through your freezer and check on the state of things, like dates and what you are in danger of running out. Baskets can help enormously with this, as you can simply lift or pull them out and check them with the freezer closed again. This will help you to preserve energy and will also speed up the process greatly. And, before I forget it, do wear gloves
They make the whole task a bit more comfortable.
